  1. It's taking sometimes a good minute or more to re-draw a graph after adding data. This is quite annoying, as part of the joys of using Beeminder is the immediate feedback of seeing your progress.

  2. I'm using the "suggestions" feature of UserVoice to submit bugs. It would be nice (and I believe UserVoice makes this available) to have a different tab for suggestions, bugs, etc. That way, users can easily submit bugs or feature requests from one place.

  3. Because I feel like I'm not the only person that tends to feel bad -maybe even a bit of a failure- when they set goals for themselves and don't reach them. It would be usefull to provide these people with a system that goes both ways. Because if you already feel bad about not following through and you get punished on top of it, that's just like a double punishment. So I would suggest 3 options:
It's always based on rewarding people for overperforming.
Have to option to earn back what you lost (the least attractive option from the financial…

  6. I am almost completely unable to distinguish between the green and the orange dots on the graphs (although seeing their position relative to the yellow road is usually sufficient). The yellow and blue dots are fine.

Quotes from "Creating Maps for Color Blind People":

"Avoid using red and green together as this is the most common combination that the color blind cannot distinguish."

"Some good color combinations are: blues and yellows; magenta-violet and yellow-reds; blue, green, yellow sequences; and for diverging data where the mid values and extremes are both important, red, orange, yellow, light blue and dark blue (center…

  8. The iOS application uses more data than any of my other apps, except for the App Store! I don't even use it very much, as the email interface is convenient for entering data. Perhaps instead of using server-side image generation for the graphs, they could be generated locally to save data usage.

  9. I do a lot of binary goals. This requires me to define the conditions for success and failure in the fine print.

The problem here is that I can change the fine print whenever I like. So I can make it easier for myself tomorrow, if I like.

What I'd like is some sort of akrasia horizon for the small print. So that I am forced to be honest about what I'm changing.

Sharing is pretty huge, but can you say what exactly you mean by “a secure way”? Do you need a way to guarantee that only specific people see your graph, and that those people would have to have beeminder accounts themselves (to ensure you’re sharing with only those you intend)? If you just give the URL of your graph to those you want to share your goal with, that may be the best of all worlds, unless you’re super paranoid about the URL falling into the wrong hands. That’s our own philosophy, anyway. Others may have different privacy needs so we’re eager to hear more feedback on this.

  11. The quote marks my phone makes aren't valid, currently, for including a note with my data-- data entry has to be in the format
    Goal date datapoint "notes"

But my phone can't make the straight double quote marks which are recognized by the beeminder computer; when I try to use the quotation marks available on my phone, I get, "We didn't understand this row".

I want to be able to include notes when adding data as a text from my phone.

  12. I want to be able to record somewhere in a failed goal the postmortem, in order to case-study my failures. Currently one cannot edit the fine print once derailment has occurred. However, fine print seems like a great place to write a postmortem as a reminder to oneself of "why did I fail these goals", and stop running in circles.

Postmortems can include: I started too high, or I just hate this task and I might well decide to just quit this goal permanently, or perhaps I was quantifying the wrong variable.

  14. Assume someone does not want to make progress on work-related goals on Sunday.

Current approach: Let that person build up a buffer from Monday to Saturday.

Problem: True akrasians won't do this. On Monday to Saturday, they will just make enough progress every day to not derail. So the lack of flat sections in the slope (if they are not manually inserted 7 days in advance) encourages truly acratic users to work every day.

One possible solution: Add an option to make the slope flat on selected days of the week.

  16. Right now it would appear RescueTime goals are limited to either singular sites or entire categories.

It would be useful more if if you had either:
    1. Subcategories (the high level categories are simply too broad in Rescuetime)
    or
    2. Multiple sites, e.g. XYZ.com and ABC.com

  17. But for me it seems to be reporting the second-to-last entry in the view just above the data entry box. It seems logical/necessary to me that it report the last entry so that I know immediately whether I already input "today" entry or not without having to actually load the graph.

  19. This I guess, would increase the commitment from the user if he knows that his money is at stake. Also it would feel like a real cash reward when he accomplishes a goal.

If he doesn't complete a goal as per plan, or if he even "derailed from the road", a chunk of the stake money goes to Beeminder.

Also, you guys could collect a flat fee of say 5 USD per goal, even if the user completes the entire goal. I would be happy to pay you that because your system allows me to be a better person. And…

  20. It's already been brought up that an option to schedule flat or altered rate days would help with planning vacations and weekends off.

In the meantime, here's an idea:
    - Give us an option in the "advanced" tab that allows us to specify something like "[ ] This is a weekday-only goal" OR
    - This goal applies only on [ ] Mon, [ ] Tues, [ ] Wed......

    • Then either:

    a) have two sets of numbers that show our minimum to the bottom, centre, top of the road, and make the second set reflect... (below) OR
    b) replace the current…
