I would rather have beeminder ask me explicitly upon completion whether I want to continue with a new end date or archive, and give me that immediate option for either.
Let's say my goal is to read the entire Harry Potter series, and I've given myself an odometer goal of x pages per day which will allow me to complete the series in two months. Once I reach my completion date, it shouldn't be another week before the goal archives; I've got nothing left of that goal to do!
I feel like if the same 7 days until archive is in place for weight loss related goals (I don't know if it is, haven't seen the end of MY weight loss goal), it could encourage people to drop more weight than is healthy.

The flex reports calories burned in excess of base metabolism. However, the fitbit site reports any calories you have burned from base metabolism as well, which as far as I know, it will do as long as you have entered your weight. So at the end of the day, net calories for me (since I use fitbit as my scale, it will always know my weight) will be calories consumed minus the calories I would burn if I did nothing but lay in bed all day.
If you know how to get fitbit to do otherwise without the feature, let me know!

As a stopgap, I think you can manually enter hours slept on the fitbit site, which should transfer over to beeminder.
