add support for short-term goals.
I want to use beeminder to ensure I stay on-track for goals that are due in the short term e.g. < 1 week. For example, I have something due in three days and I need to write 5+ pages a day to finish on-time. It might even be nice if the frequency of the deadlines could be upped from once a day to perhaps 2-3 times a day.

Agreed! I want this too! It will be a while though. I think the right way to do it is basically fully realtime continuous beeminding. Where you can actually watch the dot gradually flatlining towards derailment until you add data and make it jump up. All the things that are now messy parameter settings or hard-coded (like midnight deadline, 3am refresh, goal date, etc) could become totally intuitive / visual manipulations of the graph. Literally grab the yellow brick road and make it do anything, bump it up or down slightly to change your deadline, add temporary flat spots, retroratchet yourself by making it super steep for a few seconds -- the akrasia horizon would also slide forward in real time. First step: port the graphs to D3!
