  1. There are social [1] and practical [2] reasons to write free software. For Beeminder, being something primarily used over the internet, the AGPL would probably be appropriate [3].

  2. I love the RescueTime-Beeminder alliance - it's magic. I set RescueTime to send Alerts when I've worked 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 hours of Very Productive Time - so when I get tired, I feel good about what I did!

Adding some sort of rewarding Badge or Alert popup/text/email would make Beeminder even more addictive than it currently is. Seeing the graphs is a carrot; losing money is a stick. More carrots is always nice!

  3. Sometimes I travel or vacation without access to beeminder BUT I still keep up with my goals and habit building. It would be nice to be able to "pause" my goals for a set period and then enter the data when I get back. Then if I kept up with my goal while incommunicado, no harm, and if I fell off the wagon the sting kicks in.

  4. There are many of the settings that I always change and almost always to the same thing for all my goals (email schedule, panic threshold, max safe days, graph settings). It would be great if we could set up standard goal settings, and these would always be used for new goals.

  5. I literally cannot find a way to cancel my account. I thought I was in some sort of dummy run, where money doesn't change hands, but doesn't seem to be the case. Money IS being taken out, and I wasn't emailed to that fact, only a casual check of my bank account revealed this. The site is just too damned confusing, perhaps it was made semi-clear at one stage, who knows.

  7. I think there is some movement on this board to give users more control over deleting or editing goals, but I wanted to point out that your current lack of an interface for these things is actually a bit of a feature. It makes you think twice about what goals you create (commit to). For instance, I have a dud email goal hanging around, I set it to end in a week and I hope it goes away, but as an end-user I don't know if it will and it makes me more careful about creating goals I don't want…

  8. For goals of the form "do X at least N times per week", it would be helpful to check off each day which we did; instead of having 3 emails for 3 goals, we could have one "checklist" email where we could reply A, C to indicate that goals A and C should be incremented, but not B.

  9. My work and goal are both tracked under the same RescueTime category (Design & Composition). I want to increase my writing time, not track my work (I get my work done). The only way to get the data I need is via the subcategory :(

  10. This may be of use for a small percentage of users but seeing the pledged amount in the local currency it would be great for international users. Of course, one can make the conversion by head, but my intuition is that psychologically is easier just to see the right amount. And it's great for weaker currencies than the US Dollar, seeing 5 USD is not the same as seeing 25 ARS!

Again, this is only relevant for international users, so I don't think it's high priority.

  11. Let us set an account setting that will automatically have goals be off on certain days. I don't like having to manually enter weekends off for all my goals every week.

  13. Some goals, like strength-training, can have multiple aspects. One aspect is how often you do the exercise itself (e.g. am I going to the gym twice a week?) while other things include the repetitions you do and the amount of weight you use.

It would be nice if beeminder could plot this metadata and associate it with the given goal. So I could see a graph of my weight lifted over time, but only beemind my actual gym visits

Based on the thread "reminder (or goal) to record weight" in Akratics Anonymous.

  14. The only way I can figure out to effectively delete a scheduled break is to change the break rate to match your goal rate. There should be a way to simply delete scheduled breaks.

  15. My wife and I have some household goals that we both contribute to. It would be great if we could both enter data for the goal, and probably both be on the hook for the pledge.

As a workaround, today I am hosting our shared goals and entering data on her behalf.

  16. I'd like to be able to trim the buffer on my do less goal by how much buffer I have rather than how much time till I derail. This is both because the "how much time to derail" measure is kinda meaningless for them and because it lacks the fine grained control I need.

  17. I can change the goal name to be meaningful to me, but can't change the URL. For instance, I started my exercise regiment using an elliptical, so set the URL as /elliptical. I have since branched out into other forms of exercise, so have changed the name to "cardio", but my Beeminder Widget still says elliptical and there's no way to change it (as far as I can see).

  18. If I am going on a holiday, I have to schedule breaks individually in all my beeminder goals. I would like the ability to "mass add" breaks in all my goals by specifying a from date & to date for all my goals in one place.
