Allow goals with Intermittant Reinforcement (make goals as addictive as gambling)
Intermittant reinforment is what makes gambling addictive, i suggest the ability to make beeminder goals punish you intermittantly, sometimes taking money when you derail and sometimes not.

I'm not a psychologist but my understanding is that intermittent rewards are more effective than continuous rewards but with punishment it's the opposite. More thoughts on positive vs negative reinforcement in Beeminder: http://blog.beeminder.com/lift
