Make it simpler

Explain better how to input data in your service and make your grahps simpler. I have been trying to use your service for over a month now and still don't understand it.

The original author of this suggestion just emailed to say we can now mark it as completed. We were delighted to learn that they stuck with us for two years and that they appreciate the progress we’ve made. We do still have a lot to do to make Beeminder self-explanatory to newbees. And we will get there! Thank you so much for bearing with us in the meantime! Keep the feedback coming…

PS: Here’s part of the “explain better” part in the meantime (until it’s truly self-explanatory): http://blog.beeminder.com/newbees

Hugely appreciate this kind of feedback since this is the biggest thing holding Beeminder back right now, and I'm certain there's a way to make all the basics (creating goals, entering data, checking your safety buffer) self-explanatory. We just haven't found it yet -- though we're getting ever closer!

@Gillian, thanks so much for the kind words! Your meta-beeminder goal cracks me up. It seems like quite a catch 22: how will you beemind your beeminder learning before you've learned the basics of beeminder? :)

For real though, asking us questions as you try to set up goals, etc, is a big help to us in better understanding what we most need to fix to make things less confusing.

I totally agree with you that Beeminder is much less user-friendly than the people who run it think it is. But there's no way round the issue of learning Beeminder so that you can input your goals, add data etc. So I've set a goal on Beeminder to read 7 Beeminder blog articles / how-to's / instructions every week for 31 days. When I reach my goal, I expect that I will be able to set up Beeminder goals and input data - nothing fancy, just basic stuff. I think it's an amazing service and well worth the learning curve.
