add charitable contributions as a primary funding source for your site
Okay, I'm going to use Beeminder and pay the $. That's a result I want. I wish or have a preference that my payment was ultimately paying for some greater good than just going to Beeminder.
Beeminder is a service I'm willing to pay for, no doubt.
My idea is that you allow the payment to be dedicated to a charitable organization of your choice either as a primary function of your payment system, or as an optional attribute of payments. Beeminder takes a fixed percentage of this payment.
If I fund Beeminder in advance, say $100 into my account, then Beeminder gets the outcome of having my funds in your account working for you. As I make payments if I should have to do so in my contract, Beeminder gets their percentage payment as a regular income source.
I have no idea if this a sustainable business model for Beeminder. Just sayin' it would be cool, get my attention and do a lot of good work in the world. Portland Mercy is my choice. Sign me up.
It may also be that accomplishing my goals faster can also lead to more $ coming from me to good works, so that's a positive benefit for paying Beeminder.
Thanks.

I understand the standpoint of bob smith. However, with bigger amounts, because of exponential system, I feel like at least some should go to a charity. If it's like 400 USD, it should be easy to donate say 50-100 USD to charity. I would also like seeing the system working both ways, being able to earn rewards for overperforming. Like earning back or something. I know these kinds of things are pround to attract cheaters but I feel like it would add value. Not all people are motivated by fear, some are motivated by rewards and just a show of appreciation. In fact I'm going to post the idea right now.

The problem with this is that it could be used to rationalize. After all, it is supposed to be very BAD to not stick to the goal you pledged to do. If there is a good outcome if you stick to your goal, you won't be as motivated to stick to the goal, thus defeating the whole purpose of the beeminder service.
At the end of the day, if you plan on sticking to your goals, it shouldn't matter who the money goes to, because you are going to reach your goals.
