@jhamon, thanks for that link, and this insight. I'm still inclined to keep this on the back burner though, until we find a way to elegantly incorporate this into the overall flow of Beeminder. Everything I can think of so far for implementing something like this would add too much complexity. Keep letting us know your thoughts and ideas about this!

I still think secondary challenge goals could be a good addition, even with the Road Dial; I think Beeminder needs a little carrot to go with the stick. A very difficult goal that I am likely to fail superimposed on a more attainable minimum acceptable goal could spur me on to great things.

Being able to say "if i meet this higher goal, I'll reward myself" in addition to "but if I don't do at least this much, it's going to cost me" could have value.
