  2. When a goal becomes complete, you can continue but your data is hidden away as history. I know we can contact you to have it re-shown, but it would be kind of nice if you could decide at any time (even during active goals) how much history you'd like to see. After enough time passes, your data points get very tiny in order to be able to show all the dates.

So, I propose having a button/setting that allows you to choose from options like show all data, last month, last 2 months...

  3. Am I missing something... is Beeminder not very good at handling goals that are "do such and such every day"?

  4. At the moment, when I create a custom goal with a current value of 200 and a target of 10, subsequent data points which are greater than 200 are green instead of red.

    Alternative solutions:

    • the custom-goal creation dialog compares the current value to the target value, if if the current value is greater than the target value, establish it as a countdown goal.

    • have three custom goals name "Countdown Custom", "Countup Custom", "Flat Custom" [people in weight-maintenance mode will like flat custom"]

I am about to experiment with negative numbers to see if that works.

  5. In contrast, I have installed and test-driven RescueTime 3 times over the years.

One reason I like TagTime better is that unlike RescueTime, it TagTime does not cancel shutdown if I forget to stop it before I try to shut down my OS X machine.

Another reason I like it is that unlike RescueTime, it does not hide my data from me: TagTime has a file, called richard.log where "richard" is whatever your user name is, with all my data in it in a very simple format.

  6. I think of my goals as "do 30 reps / day", and have to constantly multiply by 7 to adjust the dial. I have forgotten to do that on multiple occasions and started with an unintentionally flat road, so "per day" UI sugar would be nice.

  7. Currently, I have to go through the FAQ to access the public gallery. It would be nice to have an easier way to view it without actually bookmarking it. Also, those who don't read the FAQ have no idea that it exists.

Further, I cannot easily find an explanation of the anit-weasel feature.

The site is lots improved! Let me quote you the new description of the anti-weasel feature, from next to the checkbox where you turn it on: “I’m a weaselling weasler, and you should ignore even the most dire of excuses unless I can produce an actual Doctor’s note, or a public announcement of my excuse. (For obvious reasons, this isn’t uncheckable!)”

  8. I'm talking about the numbers that tell you how close you are to the bottom, middle, and top of the yellow brick road.

Or in the response to new data submitted.

Kind of like how a blood test gives reference numbers for each individual test, this will allow me to glance at my email and immediately have those numbers handy if I don't remember my target range for each goal.

  9. There should be an easy way to determine which email reminders have buzzed off on the consolidated reminder page.

  11. Android 4.2.2
    Phone: Nexus 4

Tagtime version 1.2.5 Dec 2, 2011 from the play store.

When the ping list first appears, the dates display correctly. When you scroll to pings that were not loaded on the first page, the ping names are indented to the left such that the date is partially obscured. For example the rightmost 3 from 2013-04-13 would be obscured by the ping name.

When first page pings are scrolled off the screen and then back on, the dates are similarly obscured.

  12. Beeminder uses a number of neologisms and uncommon words, and it would be handy and helpful if they were defined somewhere that was easy to find. This would be especially helpful for newbies but probably occasionally useful for more experienced users as well.

    A few examples:
    - yellow brick road (partly explained in graph legend, but the basic concept is not described there)
    - akrasia horizon
    - akrasia, for that matter
    - derail/rerail (see below)

Actual case in point (perhaps this should be a support email but I'll leave it here for now): Right now, my "time until derailment" readout…

  13. At the moment, the iPhone app does not allow you to add a comment along with your data. I use comments for various things, and they are very important to the goal. For these goals, I have to use the web interface. (Which is awkward, because for some of them, I am not near a computer, by nature of the goal.) It would be handy if the iPhone app allowed me to enter comments along with my data.

  14. Every day it will post something. There's no advantage to posting a datapoint with value 0, and it clutters the commit history.

  16. I'm pretty sure that if you "stop all email (except legitimacy links)" via the link at the bottom of emails it works as described, until you add (a) new goal(s), when the setting is undone and emails are sent (by default behaviour) for the new goal(s).

This should be easy to replicate. In addition, a way to activate this feature from email settings would be great.

  18. My goal is to save $3000 in 3 months. There is not goal category for "Save Money" so I chose the only one that seemed compatible - "Do More". When I set a goal using the Do More category it automatically makes a one year goal and automatically sets the points needed to 12,768 (?!). Why can't I set the end date for 3 months from now and why can't I make the points needed match dollars saved? The interface throughout Beeminder is baffling.

  19. Sometimes I want to make a goal harder and not give myself a week of buffer. Today, if I want to increase the goal amount on a "do-more" goal it won't show the increase in steepness until a week from today after the akrasia horizon. I understand not being able to make goals easier before that date, but if I want to make it harder - especially if I have tons of buffer space, then I think this should be ok. Thanks

We’ve improved the retroratchet algorithm, so the problem you mentioned in the solution you mentioned in the comment you mentioned below the idea you mentioned is fixed now.

    Yay twisty sentences :D

  20. At the moment it looks like calling yourself a weasel for a goal cannot be undone. As someone who just signed up and was playing with settings, I would like to be able to take this off.

Or maybe just a warning that this was something I couldn't reverse?
