  2. If today is Monday, and I am taking off Wednesday, I can't create a new goal and then immediately schedule a vacation, because vacations can only be scheduled 7 days in advance.

This requirement should be waived for new goals.

  4. if you hover over "CUR RATE" on the graph you see the average rate. Daniel has confirmed that the code is old and the average rate is not correct and has said "I need to improve the statistics like this, and put them in a better place than mouseovers!"

  5. This feature would allow a user to create a goal that automatically and gradually increases from a lower initial rate to a higher target rate. Inputs would be the initial rate, the final rate, and a time scale. The result would be a non-linear road that hits the target rate at the specified time. Preferably the schedule for increase (e.g., constant, decreasing, increasing, etc.) would be set automagically.

For instance, let's say I'd like to work my way up to flossing once a day, but right now I'd be happy with once a week. I'm pretty sure I'll fail if…

  6. It's taking sometimes a good minute or more to re-draw a graph after adding data. This is quite annoying, as part of the joys of using Beeminder is the immediate feedback of seeing your progress.

  7. I'm using the "suggestions" feature of UserVoice to submit bugs. It would be nice (and I believe UserVoice makes this available) to have a different tab for suggestions, bugs, etc. That way, users can easily submit bugs or feature requests from one place.

  8. Some goals should not be allowed to enter more than 1 point/day (i.e. the graph can't increase by more than a value of 1 per day). Otherwise, I can "stack" a lot of points in one day to get really ahead of the yellow brick road, and then slack off for many days. I would be missing out on creating a daily habit by just "cramming" at the end. I've had to amend many of my goals to add a "no stacking" clause for this reason but it would be nice if that type of goal was supported out of…

  10. The only way to change the "rate units" is in the terrifyingly advanced setting after you have created the goal.

Why not provide it as dropdown in the goal creation screen?

  12. There are many of the settings that I always change and almost always to the same thing for all my goals (email schedule, panic threshold, max safe days, graph settings). It would be great if we could set up standard goal settings, and these would always be used for new goals.

  13. The iOS application uses more data than any of my other apps, except for the App Store! I don't even use it very much, as the email interface is convenient for entering data. Perhaps instead of using server-side image generation for the graphs, they could be generated locally to save data usage.

  14. I didn't know what rate I should set for a few of my goals, so I set a low rate and started tracking my behavior. Now, I'd like to maintain my behavior, and then eventually increase my behavior. To maintain my behavior, I'd like to be able to automatically set my weekly rate to the historical rate.

Agreed! I personally have the same problem and am quite motivated to fix this. Our planned “generalized road dial” may be part of the solution to this. http://expost.padm.us/dial

In the meantime, you can hit Retroratchet and then figure out manually what your historical rate has been. Not ideal, obviously, but does work.

  15. I do a lot of binary goals. This requires me to define the conditions for success and failure in the fine print.

The problem here is that I can change the fine print whenever I like. So I can make it easier for myself tomorrow, if I like.

What I'd like is some sort of akrasia horizon for the small print. So that I am forced to be honest about what I'm changing.

  16. I have a Duolingo chart. I know lots of people do! It sure would be swell to somehow all be on the SAME duolingo goal... or to see how we are all doing, compare my progress to the community's, and then have a community with discussion around that goal together.

This would be awesome for any goal that has a shared measurable criteria... so, Draftin.com and other goals could all have a community, the ability to compare yourself to the community average, and so forth, while still holding on to one's individual criteria for success.

  17. The quote marks my phone makes aren't valid, currently, for including a note with my data-- data entry has to be in the format
    Goal date datapoint "notes"

But my phone can't make the straight double quote marks which are recognized by the beeminder computer; when I try to use the quotation marks available on my phone, I get, "We didn't understand this row".

I want to be able to include notes when adding data as a text from my phone.

  18. The easiest use case would be for ramping running mileage whereas maybe I can run 6 miles per week now but want to be able to run 24 miles per week. I'd like to be able to say that I want to run 16 miles per week in 16 weeks and that my weekly mileage will ramp accordingly over the next 20 weeks. Bonus if it'd let me ramp by 10% each week (so it's not a linear increase), i.e. 6 miles week 1, 6.6 miles week 2, 7.26 miles week 3, 14.14 miles week 10, etc.

    Could call it…

  19. I want to be able to record somewhere in a failed goal the postmortem, in order to case-study my failures. Currently one cannot edit the fine print once derailment has occurred. However, fine print seems like a great place to write a postmortem as a reminder to oneself of "why did I fail these goals", and stop running in circles.

Postmortems can include: I started too high, or I just hate this task and I might well decide to just quit this goal permanently, or perhaps I was quantifying the wrong variable.
