For weightloss, YBR needs to be wider or configurably wide
The weight loss graph YBR needs to be wider, or configurable. Mine has been 4 lbs wide for several months now, but it's pretty common for me to fluctuate more than that over the course of a day or two, especially if I fast and refeed. I have had to manipulate my YBR to sit above the normal swath of data; what I need to think is "stay the course" when I have a day that's out of series and I know that I've been keeping to the right behavior, not "oh no now what".
This is a stochastic series…

Custom reminder text
I'd like to include custom snippets of text with the email or SMS message that is sent. I'm thinking to use it as sort of a mantra of sorts, or something to cheer me on each day.

Have the Beeminder email tell me what lane I'm in from the last datapoint I gave
I have a "stay under the yellow brick road" goal at the moment and the emails that report which part of the yellow brick road I'm on seem to always assume the best (zero) for the current day, telling me, for example, that I'm in the bottom lane when really I'm in the top lane and need to be really careful. It would only be if I did report zero for the current day that I would actually be in the lane the email says I'm in.

Create a forecast option to say what a value is likely to be some date in the future
I often set a goal, and I want to know what my actual rate is compared to the goal, and be able to see the path I need to take between the two. An option to
i) expand the graph x-axis forward to the goal date, and
ii) have an "based on your trend, you will be/have X on your goal date" would be useful.5 votes -
Have varying user-defined feedback rules based on the dot colors.
Have varying feedback rules based on the dot colors. The bot would send email like: "oops, you just crossed into the orange zone. Your orange plan was to 1) eat a light salad for every meal and 2) run three miles each day until you get out of the orange zone. You are 2 lbs away from losing your $5 bet." Or. "Congratulations, You just crossed into the green zone. Your Green plan was to eat whatever you want and only exercise if you feel like it.". Or "oops, you just crossed into the yellow zone. Your yellow plan was…

0 safe days should mean the emergency day is today, not tomorrow.
Even though I have been using Beeminder for a few months, I still get confused by the number of safety days. It would make more sense to me if having 0 safe days meant I need to enter data by tonight. (Right now, it means that I need to enter data by tomorrow night.)
This would be a big change, in the sense that it would initially confuse some early users. But I think it would make more sense for new users, that it would not take long for early users to get used to it, and that it is…

Let me plan and check a schedule
Sometimes I would like to plan out which days I will do workouts, and check if that schedule will keep me above the yellow brick road every day. At the moment if your plan is something irregular like 3 workouts a week, it is not immediately obvious when/if you will fall below.

Command Center!
So, I currently have six goals, and I have to constantly keep clicking between them to enter and edit data as a I go through my day. It would be really awesome to have a view where I can say, have my goals (perhaps without graphs) laid out in a simple grid arrangement, colored according to my position on the various roads, and then below each section an area to enter new and edit the last few entered data for each one. That way I can see how everything is doing and add and edit the data for my life…

Cheer when I reach my goal
Rather than see a red question/reminder (You drove off the road...) the day after successfully reaching a goal how about some praise and an offer to continue?

Show a graph preview on the create goal page
I think it would be better if you could preview your graph on the goal creation page, before the goal is actually created. Besides the visual coolness, you get to tap into the way the human visual system is very good at noticing wrong shapes.

New Goal/Reset Grace Period for Changes
When resetting a goal, I appreciate that you now allow me to specify a slope instead of starting flat for a week. The original purpose of starting flat is to make sure I didn't lose with an overambitious setting. But today I reset with the wrong slope (one year longer than I wanted) and now I have to wait a week to truly start my goal and that slope will be steeper than I want. I think you can solve both problems by allowing a "grace period" on setting up a goal; e.g. within the first 24 hours (or 10…

Beeminder App for iGoogle
I think an app for Beeminder on my iGoogle homepage would be a great way to improve functionality of Beeminder. My idea is pretty simple. Take the basic functions of the Beeminder homepage for a certain goal and put that on the iGoogle homepage. For example, I've got a goal to loose weight. Everyday I enter my data either through email or through the Beeminder website. With an iGoogle app I could view my graph for my weight loss goal; below that I could enter in that day's new point, then somewhere in the box I could press on an…

Have a nice, friendly "Help" button.
It isn't obvious how one interacts with the various parts of a goal page. For example, a naive user won't automatically figure out how to enter in data for the day. How about a nice big friendly "Help" button, maybe in green or something else that stands out, to give users some ideas on how to use UI.

Allow goals that are "per instance" rather than "per week"
I suck at getting places on time. I'd love a commitment device that allows me to have a goal such as:
"Arrive no more than 10 minutes late, 80% or more of the time."
This is the sort of goal that doesn't work on an "N per week" basis, because the number of things I can arrive late to will fluctuate on a daily basis. However it does work on a per-event or per-instance basis; each time a scheduled event occurs, I can simply report a boolean value as to whether I satisfied my goal condition for that event. If…

Enable sorting of history, buy any column.
I'm not sure what the ordering logic is for the historical data, but it would be useful to be able to choose how to order it; by data or value, ascending/descending.

Choose if imported values overwrite existing values.
I notice that after importing some data, existing data for the same days were not replaced, instead I now have multiple values for the same day. That may be desirable , but maybe not. An option to replace existing values, ignore new duplicates, or keep all, would help.

Group goals on user page by user defined categories
For example to group training related goals, books to read etc.

Allow for buddy or referee reported goals
Currently users self-report on beeminder goals. That's good, but we can lie, we can round things up/down, and we can take samples at convenient times. If there's money at stake, and that money is significant to the user, then some users will simply misreport rather than fail a goal.
However, if you have a buddy reporting a goal, you can't as easily weasel out of it.
This is a suggestion to allow nominate (on a per-goal basis) another user or users as "buddies" who can also enter data for that particular graph.

Don't reset the total when resetting cumulative goals
Recently I had to reset my "meditation" goal, because I drove off the road. My yearly goal was to do 12 minutes every day, which means at the beginning of the year it was easy to set at 4380 as the goal for 2013-01-01. Since I had to reset the goal though, I had to reset it based on a weekly amount instead of my actual goal amount, since setting the total as 4380 would mean I'm actually overshooting by 100+ minutes.

Subgoals: children of supergoals
We should be able to have goals within goals.
Let's say my goal is "be a week ahead on all my classwork."
It would be nice to be able to say, "JAVA: The complete reference; finish unit 1 in 10 days" or "Differential Equations exam, have 50 study sessions before final exam".
34 votesAre you thinking just in terms of grouping related goals together? We did recently add a very crude approximation of that: you can now partition goals into those you currently care about and those you don’t currently care about.
