  1. Maybe this is possible with the advanced goals. What I need is the odometer function of adding or substracting values but instead of starting from 0 start with an initial value and have the goal to decrease that value. Similar to the inbox fewer but instead of reporting the current total to be able to report + or - changes.
My current use case wouldbe to reduce the number of items in Pocket. Using IFTTT I can have mails each time an item is added or archived but not the current total, if I forward this emails to te bot…

  2. The goals page is currently a real pain to get to. I have two suggestions to make it easier and more obvious to find:

    1) Make the top-left logo link to the goals page. This is pretty standard behavior. Right now it links to your landing page instead, which is useless to someone who is already signed up.

NOTE: To a lesser degree, the "Overview" link has the same problem. What is an "overview," if not my dashboard? But it takes me to an overview of Beeminder instead. As an established user, I don't care about that. I care about…

  3. When entering data it is nice to have the multiline field, but using the mouse to submit is a bit cumbersome. Shift+enter seems like the most common way to submit in multiline fields.

Alice points out in previous admin response that shift-enter is also commonly used to get an explicit newline without submitting so this might be confusing.

But it may be that alt-enter is the right answer here. Note the discussion in the comments about tab+enter and tab+space, which is my own preferred solution.

  4. Beeminder and Lift.do have very different approaches to habit formation; both have strengths and I have found the benefits to be pretty much orthogonal to one another. Some may think of them as competitors, but I hope they think of each other as siblings. :)

Lift.do motivates me to consistently track habits that occur several times each week because of its attractive design and ease of use. The motivation and learning that results from the its social aspects (comments; props; notes) also keep me coming back to the app.

HOWEVER, the habits/data that I generate with lift.do would be much…

  5. I just had my first renew on the premium plan, but I had forgotten about it, and was surprised when I checked my bank statement. It would be nice to have been emailed to remind me that I'm renewing and give me a receipt for the transaction. I'd also like emailed receipts when I reset my graph and pay the fine.

  7. You should get in touch with udacity.com and coursera.org to find ways of auto-tracking a person's progress in the courses offered on those sites. Udacity.com in particular seems a good fit, as they have a consistent method of course structure. My first goal is to do daily coursework in courses I'm registered in. Auto-tracking would eliminate manual entry on Beeminder, and would eliminate the temptation to cheat if I make a pledge.

  8. It's difficult to find where this is (some users don't know it exists: http://beeminder.uservoice.com/forums/3011-general/suggestions/3675852-have-the-goal-description-on-the-goal-page). Why not make it a subtitle in a larger font below the goal name? This usually conveys more useful info than the goal name, if it exists.

  9. I am having a problem and there is no where to go to find information that isn't explicitly in the instructions or glossary. You should allow your users to ask and provide information to each other (not to mention sharing successes and failures).

This page (linked from main page as a "feedback forum") really does not a good place for this. It is explicitly for providing suggestions and not for troubleshooting stuff.

  10. Sometimes, on a beemergency day, I know that I'm not going to get back on the road that day. If I'm in a lucid forward-looking frame of mind, I'm already thinking about what slope to unfreeze with, re-evaluating the aggressiveness of the goal, the appropriateness of my fine print, etc.

What I want is the ability to take advantage of that mindset, even in the midst of a temporary setback. I don't like having to wait until tomorrow, hoping that my lucid goal-setting self is still active (and brave, if that's what's required).

I want to be able to manually…

  12. At least show your most critical goal on the watch face.

Possibly allow sending a +1 from the watch.

Or use the accelerometer for beeminding physical activity automatically, like a fitbit.

  14. Right now, unless I'm missing something, I have to archive each graph individually, and the process is laborious. I would like to archive ALL of my old graphs. Please give us the functionality to select multiple graphs and archive them all at once. Thank you!

  15. I just caught myself adding a data point and returning to my dashboard, only to be unsure of which graph I just added a data point to! In fact, over the period of a day, it can be hard to know which goals I have been working on.

  16. In noisy goals, when the latest data point is on or beyond the good side of the road, the border of the graph in the gallery is shown as blue or green, which is supposed to indicate that no matter how bad the next data point will be I won't derail -- but IIRC that's only the case if the data points are on consecutive days. Therefore, I suggest that a noisy goal with no data point for yesterday be shown as orange, to indicate that a sufficiently bad data point today would make me derail.

    (While we are at…

  17. The visibility of a graph should be independently configurable regardless of the success status of a goal. At the moment, you have to reset the goal for the settings panel to become visible, which is the only place where this setting can be changed.

  18. RememberTheMilk integration would be perfect for ensuring I "take care of the little things". Their API (https://www.rememberthemilk.com/services/api/) requires prior arrangement for commercial use, but I suspect they would heartily approve of this since it would only encourage people to use RTM more heavily and with less attrition.

  19. The iPhone app shows me a list of goals, sorted by urgently I need to do something about them, and includes a handy minimum value for the day.

The web dashboard sorts my goals in a similar manner, but there's no display of minimum values. I have to click into each goal to see what the minimum values are.

It would be handy to have this on the web dashboard.
