Turn off bot reminders but still get warnings for "emergency" days
The bot reminders now include the number of safety buffer days (number of days you can do nothing and still be on your yellow brick road) and say when it's an "emergency" day (will be officially off the road if you don't do something by midnight), which is great. But it might be nice to be able to choose to have the warnings even if you don't otherwise want the reminders.
Ok, so this could still be improved, but now if you uncheck all the days of the week (“which days can beeminder remind me on”), and leave either text or email reminders on, then you’ll get reminders only when you are orange or red.

This is now done more reasonably. There's a checkbox on the reminders page to just toggle all the days of the week on and off. So at least this way it kind of teaches you the trick. :)

Glenn, thanks so much for the feedback (here and elsewhere)!
We certainly agree that this should be improved further and happy to re-open this one if that's preferable to creating a new uservoice item. -

(Perhaps we could open another suggestion for the more advanced features like that? I notice it won't allow me to vote for this one because it's marked completed, but I'd like to vote for it to be improved further.)

I would definitely like to see CAPITAL LETTERS or an "EMERGENCY" prefix or something in the subject line on emergency day warnings, and something similarly loud for orange and blue days.
I get a LOT of email, and I tend to skim it. I really want beeminder to get my attention if I'm about to get in trouble, and I'd like it to get more attention the more trouble I'm about to be in.
SMS, too, should be configurable to ping me when it's an emergency, but not every single day.

I'm also voting for an "Only start reminding me x days before loosing" feature. Would be especially useful for goals that need action once a month or so (e.g. donations).

sorry, that was originally mimercha's suggestion!

I like Hugh's suggestion of being able to set when you get alerted. The default could be daily, as it is now, but you could choose to change that to <> days before you're off the road. The email or SMS you receive at that time could actually state the exact date and time when the goal will fail. This would be handy since there's always a little confusion when you have "0 safe days" ... does that mean midnight tonight or tomorrow night that I lose?

Gandalf, I think an actual all-caps email subject would be too much (it might get spamboxed or your eye would skip over it because it looks spammy). I'm already nervous about having the word "emergency" in the subject (we have it in scare-quotes at least).
As for the 24-hour window for entering data retroactively, you can go ahead and treat it as if this is deployed already. We're definitely going to do it and we'll manually unfreeze you as necessary in the meantime.
(Now that I've said that we're *really* going to need to hurry and get this deployed!)

With whatever the timezone settings are, I would want a clear ALL-CAPS (or something similar) warning in my inbox if I'm about to fail simply because I for once forgot to enter the data on the same day. This is perhaps only relevant until the 24-hour grace for entering data points is fully developed. But even then, it's nice with an email heads-up on emergency days.

I would also like a little control over when I get alerted. Something like a dropdown "Alert me <> days before I go off my road". For something like "blog more", 1 day is enough. For weight loss, I'm not sure any predefined period would work as intended, and it might be important to try to extrapolate the current rate of weight loss/gain to predict a collision.

Maybe there could be an SMS for orange/emergency days only. This could be an option when creating a goal, but also something that could be added later in settings/reminders tab.

this is nice, but I'd like to be able to specify separate settings for my emergency day warnings. I'd also like to make "emergency days" defined more than just 1 or 2 days out. In the case that I'm beeminding something that requires a few days of planning to execute properly on, it's difficult / not as useful to get a reminder the day of or just the day before.
